What is the “Narrow Way?”

The Narrow Way is Jesus (Matthew 7:14), but Christians allow Jesus to live his life through them. Paul said, “I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me (Galatians 2:20).”  The ministry of Jesus lives on through his church. They are the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27). They are his hands and feet and mouth.

The Narrow Way is the life of Christ as it was lived out by his church in history. The church on the Narrow Way stood on the Bible as God’s Word. They didn’t compromise the truth. They loved not their own life, even unto death. They were the HEROES of history. They’ve made up nearly every underground movement. They opposed tyranny and injustice of all kinds. They shine like lights in the darkness of a history that includes genocide, racism, and cruelty.

They also opposed “religion.” They refused to come to God in any way other than through grace. As a result, they lived lives of love that changed the world!

I welcome you to read and learn about this glorious, heroic church that loved the poor, redeemed slaves, preached the good news to cannibals, hid Jews, cared for the sick, and gave birth to science, medicine, education, human dignity, freedom, and many other blessings to humanity.

I also invite you to become part of the Narrow Way! Those who come to Jesus must come to him with humble hearts, knowing that they are sinners and in need of a savior. They must desire to forsake their sins and become new creations. Once they do this, they are given new life! They become part of the greatest movement in history– empowered with strength and courage they never had before.

The invititation has been given for over 2000 years now. So many have answered the call, including the most brilliant minds of history (Newton, Locke, Bacon), the most courageous persons in history (Huss, Tubman, Wilberforce, etc . . .), and the most vile of all persons (Jeffrey Dahmer, Nicky Cruz, John Newton, ect . . . ) They all came to Jesus! He has open arms for all who receive what he did for them on the Cross.

Won’t you come to Jesus and become part of the wonderful Narrow Way of history?

  1. I have just read “Sentenced to Siberia”, the story of the Ministry, Persecution, Imprisonment and God’s wonderful Deliverance of Pastor Basil Malof, Russian Missionary. He was a wonderful dedicated Christian man. A great inspiration for todays Christian. Was so glad to find an article on your site on him. Thank You

    • Isn’t it a wonderful story? I never knew God did this amazing work right before the communist revolution. I also loved the story of how Christians shared the Gospel with the Russian soldiers who were held in prison camps after WWI. These soldiers were so blessed they carried the Gospel back into their little homes and villages all over Russia. There are so many wonderful stories of the courage and passion of Christians throughout the ages. I truly love the Body of Christ.

  4. Diana, I saw some of your comments over on clubschadenfreude. schadenfreude is a german word that in my view has a dark meaning: “pleasure derived by someone from another person’s misfortune.” Seems that is the author’s aim in life.

But. I stopped by to say blessing in all your ventures.

    • Awww…..thank you jpound. You found yourself at Clubschadenfreude. That can be a rough place for Christians to venture. I hope it went well for you. I haven’t been there for a while. Thank you for your encouragement! Blessings in Jesus, Diana

Why am I WAITING for “Shalom?”

"They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven . . ."
(1 Thessalonians 1:9b-10a)

The word "shalom" in the Hebrew has many meanings which indicate restoration, renewal, friendship, peace, safety and so on. At one time, God placed his creation in a perfect garden--a place of safety, security, provision and peace--and we disobeyed God, losing 1) our relationship with God and 2) paradise.

Since that time, we've attempted to bring back both of these losses in our own way. Religion is our attempt to gain back our relationship with God, and politics is our attempt to gain back paradise.

The solution to both of these losses is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Yet the world refuses to believe the good news! Instead they try to attain the restoration--the shalom--in their own way through their own effort.

I believe that the kingdom of God is restored in the hearts of men as they receive Christ's finished work, but the kingdom of God doesn't come physically to earth until Christ comes.

Any effort to bring about the promise ahead of time in our own strength is akin to Abraham going to Hagar for fulfillment of the promise instead of waiting with Sarah for the birth of the promised child through whom the nations of the earth would be blessed.

The evangelical church is rushing en masse to bring about shalom through their own effort, power, and influence. Men like Bill Hybels, Rick Warren, Jim Wallis, and Donald Miller are losing their faith in the promise of Christ that he would prepare a place for them and they're attempting to restore paradise now.

I want to let it be known that I'm WAITING for shalom. I won't be a part of their dream. They are moving ahead of God rather than waiting on God and they will create another Ishmael as a result.
