Is Hurricane Harvey a Judgment from God?

Every time a calamity hits the United States, some religious leaders make the claim that it’s a judgment from God for the sins of our nation. But is this view doctrinal? Is God pouring out judgment, or wrath, on the world at this time? I admit I used to believe this, but I now believe … Continue reading

Is the “Falling Away” the Rapture?

I listened to an audio commentary by Jon Courson  on the Blue Letter Bible web site.On it he argued that the “falling away” mentioned in 2 Thessalonians 2:3  isn’t the great apostasy, but the rapture of the church.  (This is a view held by Tommy Ice and Tim LaHaye also.) His argument for this view … Continue reading

Why Does Jimmy DeYoung Say the Rapture Must Occur Before the Temple is Built?

At around 46 minutes into Brannon Howse’s radio show which aired July 12, 2013, Brannon asks Jimmy what he thinks has to happen before the Jewish temple can be rebuilt. Jimmy Deyoung, without hesitation, declared: “Rapture of the church takes place.” This declaration by Jimmy seems to directly contradict 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4. 1 Now we … Continue reading

Where Does the Gathering of the Jews (the Elect) Occur in the Book of Revelation?

Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken and then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven and then shall all the tribes of … Continue reading

Jimmy DeYoung’s Wrong Teaching on the Pre-Tribulation Rapture (Part 2)

Jimmy DeYoung believes that at the rapture of the church (when the church is gathered to be with the Lord) Jesus doesn’t appear in the clouds with great glory. Instead, he believes the church will just disappear in a twinkling of an eye, but is this what the Bible actually teaches? He claims Revelation 4:1 … Continue reading

Jimmy DeYoung’s Wrong Teaching on the Pre-Tribulation Rapture (Part 1)

I love Jimmy DeYoung and Brannon Howse. I visit the Worldview Weekend website often. It’s on my “Favorites” tab. I like to hear the latest news and analysis, and I love to hear Brannon’s views, but Brannon recently did a broadcast entitled The Biblical Evidence for the Pre-Tribulation Rapture of the Church which I have … Continue reading

Why am I WAITING for “Shalom?”

"They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven . . ."
(1 Thessalonians 1:9b-10a)

The word "shalom" in the Hebrew has many meanings which indicate restoration, renewal, friendship, peace, safety and so on. At one time, God placed his creation in a perfect garden--a place of safety, security, provision and peace--and we disobeyed God, losing 1) our relationship with God and 2) paradise.

Since that time, we've attempted to bring back both of these losses in our own way. Religion is our attempt to gain back our relationship with God, and politics is our attempt to gain back paradise.

The solution to both of these losses is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Yet the world refuses to believe the good news! Instead they try to attain the restoration--the shalom--in their own way through their own effort.

I believe that the kingdom of God is restored in the hearts of men as they receive Christ's finished work, but the kingdom of God doesn't come physically to earth until Christ comes.

Any effort to bring about the promise ahead of time in our own strength is akin to Abraham going to Hagar for fulfillment of the promise instead of waiting with Sarah for the birth of the promised child through whom the nations of the earth would be blessed.

The evangelical church is rushing en masse to bring about shalom through their own effort, power, and influence. Men like Bill Hybels, Rick Warren, Jim Wallis, and Donald Miller are losing their faith in the promise of Christ that he would prepare a place for them and they're attempting to restore paradise now.

I want to let it be known that I'm WAITING for shalom. I won't be a part of their dream. They are moving ahead of God rather than waiting on God and they will create another Ishmael as a result.
