The Southern Slaveholders’ Twisted View of the Curse of Ham

The so-called “curse of Ham” was used by the southern slaveholder as a biblical justification to hold slaves. Here is the story as it’s found in Genesis 9:18-29:   18 And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. 19 These are … Continue reading

The Human Zoo: A Result of Embracing the Scientific “Truth” of Social Darwinism over the Truth of the Bible

I recently came across this video on YouTube and remembered that I had written about human zoos in my first book.   At the end of the 19th and into the beginning of the 20th century, human zoos were set up at the many different world’s fairs as a way to display social Darwinism. These … Continue reading

Andy Stanley and the 7000 Who Have Bowed Their Knees

According to the Christian Post, over 7000 leaders have gathered at Catalyst Atlanta with Andy Stanley. That’s 7000 leaders who have bowed their knees to the spirit of oneness, a false spirit masquerading as the Holy Spirit. Stanley paraphrased the prayer of Jesus in this way:”Father, I pray that they will all be in oneness … Continue reading

Veteran’s Day, the Cause of War, and the Necessity of Pursuing Doctrinal Purity

I began to think about the causes of war. Continue reading

My New Book: “Will You Be Found Faithful? Caring About the Heart of God in an Age of Apostasy”

My new book will be coming off the press sometime this summer. It’s a small book, under 100 pages, so it should be a quick read. Here is the anticipated cover: I hope this book will help answer some of the following questions: What does it mean to be faithful to God? How does one … Continue reading

Brannon Howse vs. Charles Finney

Brannon Howse has been airing a 3-part series attacking Charles Finney, the great revival preacher of the Second Great Awakening. Again, I have to disagree with Brannon, whose understanding of Finney seems to me to be shallow and lacking. Brannon attacks Finney’s doctrine on original sin, justification, and the atonement. He also attacks Finney’s methodology, … Continue reading

My Philosophy of History

As I’ve shared in another post, Hegel had a philosophy of history. He believed that history was the progression of the consciousness of freedom. He thought he saw evidence in history that there was an upward trend in the spread of freedom. Yet when something didn’t fit in with this upward progression (such as the terrors … Continue reading

How the Southern Slaveholder Violated the Word of God

“He who kidnaps a man, whether he sells him or he is found in his possession, shall surely be put to death. (Exodus 21:16) ” . . . realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the … Continue reading

Why Virginia Heffernan is Right to Side with the Scriptures Over Science.

I would like to stand by Virginia Heffernan, a Harvard-educated, former staffer for the New York Times, Slate, Harper’s and The New Yorker, and now a national technology correspondent for Yahoo News, who recently wrote a column entitled, “Why I Am a Creationist.” Because of her stance, she has received derisive and mocking criticism from … Continue reading

Why am I WAITING for “Shalom?”

"They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven . . ."
(1 Thessalonians 1:9b-10a)

The word "shalom" in the Hebrew has many meanings which indicate restoration, renewal, friendship, peace, safety and so on. At one time, God placed his creation in a perfect garden--a place of safety, security, provision and peace--and we disobeyed God, losing 1) our relationship with God and 2) paradise.

Since that time, we've attempted to bring back both of these losses in our own way. Religion is our attempt to gain back our relationship with God, and politics is our attempt to gain back paradise.

The solution to both of these losses is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Yet the world refuses to believe the good news! Instead they try to attain the restoration--the shalom--in their own way through their own effort.

I believe that the kingdom of God is restored in the hearts of men as they receive Christ's finished work, but the kingdom of God doesn't come physically to earth until Christ comes.

Any effort to bring about the promise ahead of time in our own strength is akin to Abraham going to Hagar for fulfillment of the promise instead of waiting with Sarah for the birth of the promised child through whom the nations of the earth would be blessed.

The evangelical church is rushing en masse to bring about shalom through their own effort, power, and influence. Men like Bill Hybels, Rick Warren, Jim Wallis, and Donald Miller are losing their faith in the promise of Christ that he would prepare a place for them and they're attempting to restore paradise now.

I want to let it be known that I'm WAITING for shalom. I won't be a part of their dream. They are moving ahead of God rather than waiting on God and they will create another Ishmael as a result.
